NanoCeram-PAC® represents a paradigm shift in carbon filtration and builds on the breakthrough technology found in NanoCeram® media by combining the benefits of sub-micron particulate filtration with exceptional chemical removal performance.
In fact NanoCeram-PAC performance capabilities go well beyond the ability of either traditional carbon beds, blocks or Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) filter cartridges. How?
Carbon
Limitations
Traditional carbon block filters require glue and adhesives that cover large portions of the available carbon surface area. This effectively reduces this type of carbon filters chemical adsorbing ability by a significant margin.
On the other hand carbon beds and GAC suffer from 'water channeling' that works to by-pass carbon outside of the channel and render it useless. Carbon beds and GAC also use relatively large carbon chunks which further limits its effective surface area and chemical removal abilities.
NanoCeram-PAC eliminates these drawbacks due to a revolutionary nano-technology design that;
- Eliminates all glues and adhesives
- Eliminates channeling and improving water flow
- Reduces carbon particle size and improves removal performance
Glue Free Carbon
For the first time fine activated carbon powder (-625 mesh) can be utilised in filter media without glues or adhesives becuase it is held within the filter matrix by the electroadhesive forces generated by NanaoCeram fibres. Eliminating the need for glues, adhesives or starches allows NanoCeram-PAC to offer a much greater external surface area resulting in much more rapid adsorption of soluble contaminants. The electro-adhesive principle means a NanoCeram-PAC filter offers up to 40% more effective surface area compared to ordinary carbon filters of the same size.
Greater surface area results in much more rapid and effective adsorption of soluble contaminants. In fact, NanoCeram-PAC offers performance improvements up to 800% greater over tradtional carbon filters. (see Chlorine Removal chart)
Eliminates Channeling
Channeling is a common problem for GAC cartridges, beds and to a lesser extend carbon blocks. It occurs when water forms a flow path between the carbon by exploiting points of least resistance. The constant flow of chlorine or chemicals in the water forming the channel quickly exceeds the capacity of the surrounding carbon to adsorb it. As a result, in a very short time the carbon is overwhelmed and the water passes through the channel untreated.
NanoCeram-PAC is composed of much finer carbon powders than in traditional filters and being held in place by electro-adhesive forces there are no 'weak points' to exploit and no channels can be formed.
This ensures ALL of the carbon in a NanoCeram-PAC filter is available for chlorine and chemical adsorption. This results in superior life and chemical removal performance that traditional carbon filters simply cannot match.
